My Second Trek to the Midwest
Day 13, Friday, July 6, 2007

Evanston, Indiana to Topeka, Kansas
Day's Route Overview:
Today the plan was to try to push on through to Kansas City, Kansas.  When I got there and got the photo of the Harley factory, I started to look for a place for the night. Everybody I tried was either full or had no non-smoking rooms left.  Finally, I found a place in a Holiday Inn in Lawrence, Kansas which is about half way between Kansas City and Topeka.

Planned 425 miles, actual 493 miles

Starting out: Trip / Odometer / Time: 39.0 / 42,989 / 8:12 AM PDT

The first jaunt through Illinois did not afford me an opportunity to get a photo for the state.  I remedied this at a convenient rest stop.

This morning, the weather could not be better.

Mount Vernon, Illinois is the next good distance for a rest and refueling and it has a HD dealer.

Dale`s Harley-Davidson, 205 N. 44th St, Mount Vernon, Il, 62864
Open Tuesday Thru Sunday,, 618-244-4116

They have a Ford Model-T that they have dressed up.

Of course, I had to get a photo for the state of Missouri.  I found their Firefighters' Memorial and Museum.  They weren't open.
The trip through St. Louis was almost as bad as the one through Chicago.  The only differences are that the pavement here was decent.  But the traffic was heavier.  I wouldn't have thought that the time I went through was rush hour, but there sure were a lot of cars!  Last time I went through St. Louis, I didn't like it too.

On the south side of St. Louis, Missouri there is a Harley-Davidson dealer.
Gateway Harley-Davidson, 3600 LeMay Ferry Road, St. Louis, Missouri 63125 Open Monday thru Saturday, 314-845-9900,, 314-845-9900

The path I had to take was through the north part of town.  With the traffic, I was not about to divert to the south for this dealerhip

Mid America Harley-Davidson, 5704 Freedom Dr., Columbia, Missouri 65202 Open Monday thru Saturday,, 573-875-4444

I did get a dealer pin here.

On the North side of Kansas City, Missouri is a Harley-Davidson Kansas City Plant
11401 N. Congress Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri 64153

Getting a photo here is worth a point for my ABC's.
